Filming Blog

I got film on February 26, 2020 with my other group mates Nagual and Carla at Nagual's house. I originally didn't have a way to get there, so decided to take Nagual's bus with her to her house. In order to take her bus I had to get a bus pass from either the vice principal or principal. I ended up getting a pass from the vice principal, Mr. Rodriguez. Once I got to Nagual’s house I had to change my clothes and redo my hair for filming. By that time everyone had showed up so I went straight into filming. The first thing I did was the tracking shot of carla running. The original problem shot was that it was to shaking so, we decided to use a skateboard. So basically I was on the skateboard recording and was being held and pushed by Nagual. On like the sixth try I eventually got a good shot.
The only problem I probably faced was when I fell on the skateboard. The next scene that I had to do was where I greet Carla inside the house. That part was fairly easy because all I had to say was “Hey” and “I know” in a surprising manner. After that, I had makeup put on me to look like I was just attacked by a wolf. I had to put makeup because, this was the scene where the bodies are found. For fake blood we used barbecue sauce and ketchup mixed with water. After that, I put a lot on my face, so there could be a shot of the blood dripping. I ended switching positions so instead of being the body that lays upward I was downward. Since the sun was down by that time, all that was left for me to record was Carla running and her reaction to the bodies. Both shots were easy to film because there wasn’t much movement needed.

Editing blog

This blog was originally supposed to be a filming blog but we already started shooting. So it made more sense if this was on editing. Like I had stated before, I was unable to attend the first filming session. Due, to me being unable to attend, I had decided to look for royalty free background music that could be used. So, far I found three songs that everyone was in favor of, and three was all we really needed. What is so significant about each songs is that they all convey different feelings of horror. This meaning that some where very silent, which allowed tension build up. While others were very direct in showcasing the urgency of this situation. I had went to other websites in order to find music but none of them really fit what I was looking for. Which was, a vast range of music all link to the horror genre but all give off a different feeling.

Eventually I stuck to the website I was originally on. Finding royalty free music on the Fesliyan Studios was much easier than any other one for a number of reasons. All I had to do was when I got there just click on the genre I was looking for and scrolled through the list that was provided. On top of that they also gave sub genres to horror to make my search more thorough. Those sub genres were categorized into words like, dark, mysterious, eerie, and even classical. The three songs I initially had in mind were “monster in the field, anxiety, and fight or flight”. The problem with these songs was that even though it have an ominous feeling the tempo was too sped up or loud. At first I thought that’s what makes a scene scarier. But, when thinking back to other horror movies, the scariest scenes had a more low pitched slower tempo. So I instead went with, “Evil rising, dark fog, and It is coming”.

Filming blog

Filming was done on Tuesday, February 18 after school at Nagual’s house. Since I’d need to go home on the bus in order to get there I had originally arranged a ride. That ride was supposed to be my dad he had cancelled. He had cancel because there was no one to watch my baby brother. By that time all the rest my members had already left or we’re going in opposite directions. Since my bus is the first round, it was too late to take the bus home. since I was unable to attend filming they just had to work around my part. In mean time, In decided to look up royalty free music that could be used as background music. The music I was looking had to go in correspondence with the genre of the film. That being horror, so the music had to be eerie, dark, and mysterious.

It turns out that the problems wasn’t finding royalty free music. The problem was, finding free royalty free music. Many of the sites that I found, wanted me to start a free trial. There, were some free sites as well, but didn't have a wide range of songs for horror movies. That was until I found a website called FS STUDIOS, they mainly showcase horror background music. I had to find at least 5 songs for different parts of the movie. For when the beginning starts with the jogging scene. The killing scene and the anticipation of that scene. Lastly, the ending of the film, the music used there wound have to be high pitched since it still the climax of the film. So far I’ve found sounds for all the scenes but the opening jogging scene.

Storyboard Blog

The purpose of the storyboard is to plan out the entirety of our film.  The storyboard is divided into scenes. For each scene we had to put the camera angles used. As the storyboard illustrates, we start with and establishing shot of carla running. Next is a tilt shot of Nagual’s house, this is to show to setting and mood quickly change. After that Is an action match scene where Nagual grabbing a cup transcends into the killer grabbing a knife. This immediately cut off by the title and credits of the movie. After this we focus on the glass breaking sound because that’s where the storyline starts to really pick up. For the rest of the storyboard it’s mainly how the wolf gets each of us which consists of a lot of high angle, medium shots, and close up. Lastly, we finish the storyboard with a close up of the killer saying one last thing. M

font, contrast, spacing, tracking, and working title planning blog

The PowerPoint is the basically a breakdown of what some of the elements in the film will look like. Those elements consist of font, contrast, spacing, tracking, and working title. The font was mainly based off of the tone of the film. Since the genre is horror, the font had to give the audience a feeling of fear. The contrast is just color and purpose, we went with green and black. I believe this was a good choice because, most movies with this story line use these colors. Tracking is just the layout for how the credits are going to be. In tracking, in order to keep everything order we decided to use no spacing between letters. Lastly, the working title that we chose is "MUTANT". I think that the working title corresponds really well with the story line.

Location, Participants, health, and schedule planning blog

In the blog, we mainly go over the basic guidelines of what shooting will be like. For the location we have two places in mind, Nagual's house and somewhere abandoned. In order ensure proper health and safety there will be an adult present. Along with having an adult present, we will be using props like fake blood and breakaway glass. The rest of the slides consists of our schedule, which is being used to keep filming on track. The day we officially start filming will be the 18th of February. We officially start filming on that day because by then we would have the things we need to start. One of those are the second location (abandoned location) which we should have the 12th. Another thing we need are the props like the fake knife, blood, breakaway glass, and eye makeup. After filming is done all that will be left is to do some peer reviewing.
